In 1862 Charles Christian from Pitcairn Island bought 54 acres of land for ₤30. A portion of the land later became Maria Bailey's who married Dick Heaps and in 1907 they built 'Hillcrest' on this site. in the 1970's the property was converted to an accommodation house and the old homestead became Mariah's Restaurant.
Tragically the restaurant was burnt down during the early 1980's and a modern structure replaced it. Visitors today enjoy the same magnificent views as would have been had from the veranda of the old 'Hillcrest' home.
Mariah's Restaurant and Lounge Bar form part of the modern complex on the old homestead's site.
